Smoke alarms are one of the most important tools for protecting your home and family. They provide early warning during a fire, giving you critical time to escape. Homes with working smoke alarms significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in a fire.

Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of your home, inside each bedroom and outside sleeping areas. Test alarms monthly and replace batteries at least once a year or as needed. Entire units should be replaced every 10 years, as sensors can become less reliable over time.

Never ignore a chirping alarm, as it often signals a low battery or malfunction. It is also important to ensure alarms are not disabled, even temporarily.

Taking a few simple steps to maintain your smoke alarms can make a life saving difference.
